Imperfect Facial Rounds

It’s a little action done daily. I’m trying a thing where I make the daily items I interact with as easy as possible to use (i.e. least touches to access through all actions of item).
Morning & night routine calls for facial rounds. I have a container that sits on the narrow back of my sink along with the products I use them with (in up-pump dispenser bottles). The disposable cotton rounds purchased in a plastic tube have been the go-to. I know larger reusable facial rounds are available. They don’t fit on my sink.
So, perfect! I make things. I’m focusing on reducing my own waste. What to do with all of those little fabric scraps? You know, all of the leftover bits of projects because you have been so efficient in cutting. All of the circles, that’s what.
I found just the right size can sitting in amongst the paint. I discovered early on that I couldn’t nest the circles of the rounds too close together. I had to give myself a border for the manipulation of the pieces through my overlock machine. The circle diameter is too small for strictly feed-dog aided stitch. I need that border to physically pull & guide the rounds through the machine. I may or may not have earned a tingly thumb & locked fingers out of the process. They’re back now…it’s fine. (& ever evolving).
Beta testing told us light colors. Internal demands (Me... I did it. :) dictated the size. Imperfect because small circles are very challenging on an overlock machine & we should embrace more of the slight imperfection in human made! (We are NOT machines!…though sometimes it is fun to try).
They are washable, so reusable. They come in a handmade delicates wash bag made from materials purchased at local fabric warehouse, S.R. Harris, cause I love the multi-function of the packaging, storage, & wash of the rounds. They do have ‘h. winkworth designs’ logo tags to use as hang loops. I have a rack that lives beneath my sink. To pair with the clean rounds on my sink back I hang the mesh bag, open, on an ‘S’ hook on the rack under my sink. When it’s full (or my clean container is empty) I throw it in the wash & hang dry- to preserve the life of the rounds. I do sometimes wash by hand because I think I get them cleaner…& I don’t have in-unit laundry.
I use them for toner & on the rare occasion I wear makeup, this paired with my trusty makeup remover does the trick. They are in Beta Testers hands & homes, giving them the business. This is an ever evolving adventure & I dig it. Whatever small shifts may happen in the design/process, Imperfect Facial Rounds are graduating out of ‘Wink Works’ development & into the category of ‘Shop’!
